Doula Fees
In our community the cost of a doula ranges from $350-$1200, with an average woman paying $600. The general cost can differ depending on the experience of the doula and the services she offers. Some doulas set their prices based on the clients household income, some set it based on the service you request (number of prenatal and postpartum visits, meal tree organizing etc) and some simply have a set rate. Most doulas in our community are willing to barter, set up payment plans and offer reduced cost or free births for those with a lower income. Clients asking for a reduction in costs based on income may be asked to provide a verification of income. When interviewing a doula feel free to ask about the fees, types of services she offers or any special circumstances you might have. If you are unable to pay a minimum amount or make payments to a doula but would still like someone to attend your birth as a professional support role, you can e-mail me, Kit Meyer at Kit@humboldtchildbirth.com and I may be able to connect you with doulas who are in training and offering serives at greatly reduced costs.
