This is an opportunity for expectant families in the area to meet local doulas and hear about the services they offer. Formal introductions will be followed by a Q&A session. Doula is a Greek word whose definition has come to mean a woman who helps other women. The word has further evolved to mean a woman experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and after childbirth.

This relaxed and friendly class will focus on how to best prepare for conceiving and growing a baby. We will discuss fertility cycles and creating a positive environment for conception, nourishing nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices. Sunday, May 6, 4-6 p.m., at Humboldt Women’s Health. Taught by Sommer Halligan, she is a Licensed Midwife practicing with Dr. Keven Nevil at Humboldt Women’s Health. The practice offers holistic gynecology and pregnancy care to families in Humboldt County.

Dancing for Birth classes Taught by Sarah Biggs

If you can walk then you can dance! The moves are inspired by African, Caribbean, Latin, and Belly dance. You’ll become stronger, more agile, and more at ease with your body. Pregnant moms and postpartum moms with babies are welcome. These classes are energizing and fun, and no experience is needed. Bring a water bottle, yoga style clothes, and a birth ball if you have one.
When: Meets Sundays, 2:00-3:30 starting Feb. 5
Location: Humboldt Capoeira Academy (next to Ritas off the Arcata plaza)
